Calzada Portuguesa is a type of floor covering used in Portuguese-speaking countries.
This paving laying technique originating in Portugal, uses small irregular cobblestones usually in limestone and basalt, generally black and white, although sometimes colours such as green or blue, brown or red are seen, with which decorative motifs (which are repeated) are made using stencils.
Spain, as a neighbouring country of Portugal, has reproduced this technique in some of its streets. In Madrid, Granilouro has laid on the Avenida de Portugal, cobblestones, unsurprisingly, with Portuguese paving with floral motifs. This avenue has continuity on the banks of the Manzanares River, where despite not adding decorations and therefore not being a Portuguese roadway, it maintains the rustic cobblestone.
If floral motifs were chosen for Madrid, in Torremolinos the motifs selected are marine ones. In black on white, decorations such as anchors, waves… are repeated.
