Plaza de España, Madrid: A Landmark in the Heart of the Capital
One of Granilouro’s most emblematic projects is the redevelopment of Plaza de España in Madrid, a highly complex undertaking with significant symbolic value for the city. Directed by architects Lorenzo Fernández-Ordoñez, Aránzazu La Casta and Fernando Porras-Isla, and carried out by the joint venture UTE PLAZA ESPAÑA (FCC–PACSA), the project has completely transformed one of the most monumental areas in Madrid’s historic center.
With over 1,000 customized cutting plans, Granilouro has shaped the granite that paves, borders and structures this new pedestrian space—environmentally respectful and filled with unique design solutions. Among the most remarkable pieces are dual-function bench-planters, moulded fountain curbs, and special elements combining wood and stone, all crafted with millimetric precision according to the architects’ designs. This project reflects Granilouro’s technical excellence, attention to detail, and mastery in working with natural stone.
