Special Granite Pieces: Urban Furniture Built to Last

Urban furniture is an extension of architecture. It’s not just about benches, fountains or paving stones—these elements structure public space, define its character, and shape the way we inhabit it. In this context, granite has proven to be one of the most suitable materials throughout history. Its strength, ability to age gracefully, and natural beauty make it a choice that is hard to surpass.

The Value of Granite in Public Spaces

Those of us who design urban environments know that every material must meet both aesthetic and functional demands. Thanks to its composition and structure, granite is capable of withstanding intensive use without losing its qualities. It doesn’t wear easily, resists harsh weather conditions, and retains its presence and appearance for decades.

Beyond its durability, granite offers a rich range of colors and textures, making it easy to integrate into a wide variety of urban settings—from historic squares to contemporary developments. Its versatility allows for the creation of furniture pieces that go beyond standard elements, becoming distinctive features that enrich the urban landscape.

Granilouro: Precision in Stone

Crafting special granite pieces requires deep knowledge of the material and technical expertise to ensure flawless finishes. At Granilouro, we have mastered the production of complex, high-quality elements, pushing granite to its fullest potential.

Our projects showcase this expertise. In the Isny Amphitheater in Germany, we built large steps and bleachers in Gris Louro granite, integrating LED lighting that enhances the structure at night. In Frankfurt, a winding fountain in Gris Louro proves that stone can take on dynamic shapes without losing its essence.

The Paseo del Parrote in A Coruña is another example of granite’s ability to adapt to organic forms. There, the benches feature curved volumes that evoke the human body, while in Place des Carmes in France, a more restrained design was chosen, with fountains and pavements in Blanco Louro that respect the architectural elegance of the surroundings.

Pieces That Transform the City

Granite urban furniture not only meets functional and durability criteria—it also has the power to transform the urban landscape. In Madrid’s Gran Vía, benches and curbs made of granite define the space and give it a unique identity. The same is true for the Cinco Torres Business Area or the Town Hall Square in Hannover, where large-format planters structure the space and create visual rhythms that enhance the city’s design.

Every intervention using special granite pieces is an opportunity to revalue public space. Stone, when crafted with precision, is not just another material—it is a statement of permanence, a gesture of respect for the city, and a commitment to its future.

Granite: A Legacy for Generations

Designing urban furniture in granite means thinking long-term. It’s not about temporary solutions or passing trends. It’s about leaving a solid mark, ensuring that the spaces we design today remain functional and beautiful a hundred years from now.

At Granilouro, we see granite as a material that enables bold ideas without compromising strength or quality. We understand that each piece must meet precise architectural criteria and be executed with the highest level of technical accuracy. Above all, we believe in granite’s ability to shape urban furniture that doesn’t just endure through time—but belongs to it.
